Steel columns are to support the roof. While there is enough strength in the tyre walls to support the roof the New Zealand building code has no provision to use tyres as a weight bearing wall, hence the steel i-beams painted with 2 pot poxy resin. (Paint cost more than the steel.)

Tyre walls and bond beam finished. Now lets get the roof on.
