Welcome to Kandoit, a remarkable 7.47 ha (18.5 acres) block of native bush, (only 1 hr south of Auckalnd) with excellent views overlooking the Waikato. Walking distance to Ngaruawahia and a 12 minute drive into Hamilton, and 20 minutes from Waingaro Hot Springs.
We enjoy the large Kauri, Rata and Rimu that tower over a canopy of Tawa, Kohekohe, Hinau, Rewarewa, Mangeao, Pukatea, Tanekaha, Kanuka and Manuka. (Some of the nicest bush in the Waikato). Our bush track links to the Department of Conservation walkway that runs the length of the Hakarimata Scenic Reserve.
Tui’s and Bellbirds sing mornings and evenings, Wood Pigeons, Fantails, Kingfishers and Quail can be seen most days.
Starting in 2008 Kandoit and adjacent properties have been turned into a bird nesting sanctuary,
We are now building an ‘Earthship’ home. A house built using car tyres and other recycled materials, we believe it’s New Zealands first.
Our Earthship is suitable for eco-friendly minded people, wwoofers and friends to stay in with us.
Part of Kandoit was once a clay brick quarry, we are restoring it to its former natural native glory.
We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures of our progress.
